Thesis defense of Quentin MAROLLEAU, PhD student in the Quantum Gas group, on Tuesday 13 December 2022, at 1.30pm in the Amphitheater of the Institut d'Optique in Palaiseau, on the topic: "Quantum Atomic Optics: Metastable helium for atomic interferometry".

Abstract: "Coupled with an optical lattice, a Bose-Einstein condensate of metastable helium can act as a coherent source of atoms. The quantum state produced by such a source comprises multiple particles with non-classical correlation properties.
In this thesis we show that it is possible to use such a massive particle source for various interferometric experiments, thus extending a field of activities previously specific to quantum optics to the domain of atomic physics.
This work, essentially of an experimental nature, carried out within the "Quantum Gases" group of the Institut d'Optique, is accompanied by a theoretical study dealing with the large-particle analogue of the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, as well as with Bell inequalities involving quantum states more complex than the two-particle Bell states."
