Thesis defense of Romaric JOURNET, PhD student in the Quantum gases group of the Laboratoire Charles Fabry, on 16 March 2023 at 2.30pm in the Auditorium of the Institut d'Optique Graduate School in Palaiseau, on the topic: "Toward fluorescence microscopy of a quantum gas of strontium".

Abstract: "This thesis presents advances towards fluorescence microscopy of a strontium quantum gas, within the Quantum Gases group.
During this presentation, I will review the development of the experimental setup during my thesis. I will then present in detail the simulations that have been performed to reconstruct future fluorescence microscopy images with a single atom resolution, which allow to predict the photon scattering by the atoms during the imaging phase. In particular, I will present theoretical work on the cooling of atoms in a shallow optical lattice. Finally, I will discuss the work on the protocol for processing images of atoms trapped in the optical lattice. These simulated images are obtained at low photon flux and moderate optical resolution, making the problem of reconstructing the lattice site occupancy a challenging one."
