The Jacques Herbrand Grand Prize (physics) 2022 is awarded to Igor Ferrier-Barbut, CNRS researcher in the Quantum Optics group of the Charles Fabry Laboratory (Institut d'Optique Graduate School/CNRS/Université Paris-Saclay) by the French "Académie des Sciences".

Igor Ferrier-Barbut is conducting experimental research in quantum physics with laser-cooled atomic systems. He has studied the N-body problem in the case of different interactions between constituents: short-range and magnetic in superfluids, or light-induced for an ensemble of atoms illuminated by resonant light. His studies have revealed collective processes in these various systems linked to quantum correlations, creating new states of matter.
