PhD students' seminar given by Marlo VEGA from the Biophotonics group, on 12 May 2022 at 1.15 in the auditorium of the Institut d'Optique in Palaiseau and by videoconference, on the topic: "Study of heat exchange mechanisms in nanostructured networks."

Abstract: "By absorbing and converting light into heat, gold nanoparticles behave as nano-heat sources, useful in many research fields. By exciting nanoparticles with light pulses, it is possible to achieve better heat confinement as well as higher temperatures. However, thermal relaxation in this regime is much more complex to study experimentally due to spatial confinement (nm) and extremely fast (<ps) temperature dynamics.

The temperature can be evaluated indirectly using optical measurements coupled to a numerical model. The purpose of this seminar will be to explain this measurement method and then to present the main results of my thesis on heat propagation in a gold nanocross lattice. We will see that the temperature can be inhomogeneous within the nanostructures. This thermal anisotropy will be exploited in the second part of my thesis to locally suppress the surface chemistry of nanoparticles."
